The John Hancock Center FM Combiner ca 1987- (portion pictured) during final testing before shipment to Chicago. This 10 station combiner has the distiction of being the only system where RF specifications were written based on their effects on reception and demodulated audio performance. Specifications were written by Jim Addie (left), president of the JHC FM Committee, and Bill Partyka (center), consultant. Specs were based on detailed computer simulations and field measurements. The specifications were so exacting that one major combiner manufacturer declined to bid on the project. The system was especially challenging because of the close frequency spacing of Chicago stations - 800KHz. The system is currently in use at the Hancock Center.
