AddieTech was founded in the mid 1980s by Jim Addie. The idea was to provide a "broad-based technolgy consulting sevice" centered on the Audio,Video, and Broadcast sectors.
Jim Addie has had a career in broadcasting that spans 45 years, with his professional career occupying 41 years. He has held engineering positions with such notable stations as WFMT, WGN, and WJMK (CBS/Infinity). He has consulted with many other stations, a list too long for this space. He served for nearly a decade as President of the John Hancock Center FM Committee, and co-authored specifications for a new multi-station combiner system for that building, and oversaw its installation and commission. Among Jim's innovations were the first digital audio STL (Studio-Transmitter Link), high performance telephone line equalization systems based on empirical line peformance tests, and the first large-scale application of Dolby SR noise reduction to broadcast telephone circuits. He has designed broadcast equipment including consoles, audio processors, monitoring and routing/ switching systems.
Jim has also worked in the commercial sound arena, designing large-venue sound systems, theater systems, and museum exhibit systems. He is a video producer, having produced and directed 7 full-length documentaries, and numerous corporate and training programs. He currently also works in the consumer electronics field as a home theater designer and calibrator with THX and TMH certification.
Jim has more than a passing interest in educational broadcasting, having had his own career formed by his experience as Chief Engineer and Program Director for a high school FM station. He is happy to provide his sevices especially for school stations, and has an intimate understanding of their unique needs.
